How space ice cream is made?
Real creamy filling is specially prepared – drained and frozen to a temperature of -35°С directly in freeze dryers.
Lyophilized in sublimation dryers at sub-zero temperatures in space vacuum. At this moment, the moisture inside the ice cream turns into steam at sub-zero temperatures and settles in the form of ice in the sublimation chamber of the dryer. The process of freeze-drying lasts several days.

Ready-made Space ice cream is tasted by a technologist, checks the quality of the finished product by taste, and compliance with the HACCP space standard (this international standard of food quality on Earth, was first developed specifically for space food).And space packaging in a hermetic vacuum pack. A moisture absorber must be placed in the middle of the package (it is not an edible part of the content 🙂 ) Interesting fact: cosmic ice cream produced at all stages of production in deep cold, even freeze drying, when ready – not cold at all.
